The Piney Grove Fire Department is located in Kernersville, NC just outside the town limits. We have 2 fire stations, one located on Piney Grove Road and the other on Vance Rd which we consider our HQ station.
Our department is a combination department meaning we are staffed with paid and volunteer personnel 24/7/365. Each station houses fire engines with one having a brush truck for woods or grass fires and the other having a small quick response vehicle utilized for medical emergencies or used in a support role for equipment. We follow under direction of a Board of directors made up of members of the community with representation from our Fire Chief for issues pertaining to the operations of the department which this person is responsible for on a daily basis.
We average a little over 500 calls per year mostly medical related in our community of approximately 7200. We have one Elementary school and a just a few businesses.
We train each week on Monday evenings on various topics such as fires, medical emergencies, rescue calls, hazmat, and many more. We also invite youth ages 14-18 to join our Cadet program where those individuals get to learn and experience what it’s like to work in emergency services.
Cadets aren’t allowed to perform any patient care or rescue tasks but are allowed to put out small outside fires under supervision of senior firefighters. Cadets train with EMT’s & Firefighters and perform daily Station checks or apparatus inventory.
